"A woman in that town who lived a sinful life learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume. As she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them. When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is—that she is a sinner.” Luke 7:37-39
There is so much chatter (incessant trivial talk) surrounding us and if we are not careful we can subscribe to it. The whispers, the self-doubt and low self-esteem we internalize is the greatest chatter which seem the most difficult to blockout. This woman, who in three accounts (Matthew 26; Mark 14 and Luke 7) heard the followers of Jesus and the Pharisees talk about her, the scribes of these three accounts did not mention her name.
Today I challenge you to ignore the chatter like the nameless woman. I believe she was nameless for our sake as women. We can do as she did, be in the presence of Jesus, worship, cry and lay at his feet unbothered. She moved past her own whispers, self doubt and low self esteem because she wanted the greater at all cost. She poured out very expensive oil on Jesus feet, in other words she sacrificed her earthly treasure to anoint Jesus. The beautiful thing about this account in Matthew 26:13 Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.” She is still being talked about today and is known throughout this world not for the former life she lived. What she sacrificed in that moment, changed her life forever. and is still impacting our lives today.
Liken to life today, in order to be who God has caused you to be "ignore it all". Let your sacrifice unto God be what is remembered of you.
Father, thank you for forgiving my sins and using this woman as an example. I receive your forgiveness and the right to seek you and worship you in spirit and truth. I appreciate you seeing me beyond my flaws. Thank you for the plans to prosper me according to Jeremiah 29:11. I lay down the burdens, cast down the thoughts contrary to your word and ignore the chatter. I will be, all of whom you have created me to be in Jesus name. Amen.
